DREWRYVILLE

The westbound lane of Southampton Parkway (U.S. Route 58) was briefly closed on Monday about seven miles west of Drewryville due to a single-vehicle accident, but has since been reopened.

Dennis Whitby with the Drewryville Volunteer Fire Department confirmed to The Tidewater News shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Monday that the agency, along with Capron Rescue Squad, had responded to the scene of the accident earlier that day.

According to Whitby, a single SUV [not truck as previously reported to the newspaper] had run off the road and struck a tree, injuring the driver. Whitby confirmed that no one other than the driver had been inside the vehicle, and that the driver had been transported to Emporia for treatment.
