Need for blood donations is year-around

While making your list of things to do today or really almost anytime this summer, add this one: Giving blood.

That’s right, please seek out and schedule an opportunity to contribute a vital part of yourself so that other people may live. Unlike schools, the need for blood donations doesn’t get time off this season or any other holiday. People need blood for surgeries or after accidents, etc. Until or if viable synthetic blood can ever be created, humans are the only source for life.

Lucky you, there are two such collections happening today, June 26. The first is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Emergency Services Building of the Franklin Fire Department, 100 S. Main St. Can’t get to town? No worries. The second is from 2 to 6 p.m. in Tucker Swamp Baptist Church, 37527 Seacock Chapel Road, Zuni. If you miss either, another will be take place in nearly two weeks. On Tuesday, July 9, Franklin Baptist Church at 209 N. High St., will host another collection from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
