The fifth annual “Loving It Now” Track Golf Tournament, sponsored by Dennis Sumblin, Head Track Coach of Franklin High School, was held on June 14, 2019, at the Sleepy Hole Golf Course in Suffolk. The Tabernacle Baptist Church Golf Team of Reverend Dr. Robert Diggs, Cleo Jones, Gennie Grant and Donald Walls were “three-peat” winners. Second place honors went to the team of Dr. Justin Oliver, Dr. Rodney Bland and Colonel (Ret.) Fredric Cross. Cleo Jones won the Closest To The Pin Trophy, and Dennis Sumblin won the Longest Drive Trophy. Robert Britt, Tommie Riddick, Dr. Justin Oliver, James Peebles and Clarence Ruffin were recognized and awarded a certificate and gift for having played in the tournament for all five years of its existence.

The “Loving It Now” Tournament is played in honor of Sumblin’s deceased PE Teacher, Mr. Charles Pearce, who, years ago, encouraged his class of young men to learn the game of golf. They were not interested then, but today, they are “loving it.”
