Local athletics flexing muscles

This past weekend, members of two local sports teams more than ably demonstrated they know that they’re doing on the track and field.

For starters, the Franklin High School track team competed in the Tri-Rivers District Outdoor Track Championships, and each runner has advanced to the Region 1A East Championships. Two examples: Jamiya Stratton ran the 400 Meter Dash in 1:20.33 and LaSean Nichols Porter also ran a time of 22.97 in the 200 meter dash.

We look forward to reporting their success when they and other Broncos participate in the VHSL 1A Outdoor Track State Championships this weekend.

On their softball field this past Friday, the Lady Dukes of Windsor High School earned the right to continue to the semi-finals on Tuesday. They played and won against the Lady Eagles of Washington and Lee. Lady Dukes Sydney Turner and Maja Angle were cited by their coach, Brooke Sutphin, as standouts in that particular game.

Likewise, we’re hopeful that the softball team will continue the momentum with professional and expert playing.
