Southampton County Dept. of Social Services has received $2,000 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation. Social Services will use the gift to support its Emergency Food Pantry and Mobile Food Distribution as well as to provide healthy snacks for its Back to School Project and Thanksgiving distribution.

“It means so much to us and we are so appreciative of this generous gift from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation,” Said Michelle Stivers, director. “This gift enables us to provide a little something extra to some of our community’s more vulnerable citizens that they may have gone without.”

Southampton Social Services is designed to help meet the basic needs of citizens who cannot help themselves. The organization works to provide services within the home community and with an environment that promotes family stability, wherever possible. The services are designed to assist these citizens to become self-sufficient and self-supporting as their own capabilities permit.

Established in 2001, the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $9 million in grants.
