On Monday at 3:36 p.m., Franklin Police officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Clay Street on a welfare check on rabbits in the back of a pickup truck. Officers found a total of 64 rabbits of which 36 were deceased, according to department spokesman Sgt. Scott Halverson.

The owner of the truck, Dwight Hunter of Franklin, told police that he purchased the rabbits earlier that day with the intentions of selling them.

An investigation is ongoing.
