Virginia ranked best state for military retirees

WASHINGTON, D.C.

With May being Military Appreciation Month and significant military pension changes having taken effect last year, the personal-finance website WalletHub, on Monday, released its report on 2019’s Best & Worst States for Military Retirees, naming Virginia the best.

To help our troops plan their years after service, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 29 key indicators of retirement-friendliness toward veterans. The data set ranges from job opportunities for veterans to housing affordability to quality of VA hospitals.

On a scale of one to 51 with one being best and 25 being average, WalletHub ranked Virginia:

fourth in veterans per capita

third in its percent of homeless veterans

ninth in veteran job opportunities

third in its percent of veteran-owned businesses

and seventh in its number of VA Benefits-Administration facilities per number of veterans
