Isle of Wight investigators interviewed for ‘Diabolical’

ISLE OF WIGHT

Both investigators and Commonwealth Attorney’s staff in Isle of Wight County are to be featured during Investigation Discovery channel’s upcoming episode of “Diabolical,” according to Sheriff’s spokesman Tommy Potter.

This show, titled “Someone’s Lying,” will feature the 2015 murder of Jean Marie Smith by Eric Brandon Saub on April 15, 2015.

Eric Brandon Saub

Smith, a former Navy sailor, was found on April 17 near Hatcher’s Lane off Courthouse Highway. She had last been seen in Courtland with Saub on the day of the murder. The two had previously gone to Orlando, Florida, and returned on April 15. The autopsy later showed she had a single gunshot wound to her head.

At the time of his arrest on April 28, Saub told media that Smith “was like a sister to me.” He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment a year later. The jury trial took place over several days in 2018, and Saub was found guilty of murder in the second degree on April 30. He was sentenced to 30 years on July 10.

The episode is scheduled to be shown starting at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28.
