Woman arrested on firearms charges

FRANKLIN

A Franklin woman has been arrested on a charge of recklessly handling a firearm on Sunday, according to Franklin City Police Department spokesman Sgt. Scott Halverson.

At 7:16 p.m. that day, he stated, officers responded to Dorchester Square Apartments on a report of gunshots, and an argument between a male and female. On arrival, the police were able to talk to witnesses and locate a suspect. Anika Newby, 28, was arrested and also charged with brandishing a firearm and discharge a firearm in the city limits. No one was injured and there was no property damage.

At 8:14 that same night, officer responded to the area of Bruce Street on a report of gunshots. After canvassing the area and talking to witnesses, they were unable to locate any evidence of gunfire.

At 8:15 p.m., police were called to the area of Campbell Avenue on a report of gunshots. After canvassing the area and talking to witnesses, they also were unable to locate any evidence of gunfire.
