BOYKINS — Berkley Mack Francis, 81, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2019.

A lifelong resident of Southampton County and widower of Thelma Morgan “Bootsie” Francis, he was a son of the late Herbert Mack and Doris Avent Francis, and was also predeceased by a sister, Shirley F. Spruill, and a brother, Kenny Francis.

He was a graduate of Southampton High School and a former National Guardsman.

Berkley had retired from the Virginia State Police as a Commercial Vehicle Officer, and after his retirement he pursued his lifelong dream of farming with this son.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Left to cherish his memory are a son, Brian Mack Francis (Bobbie Joe); he was “Paw Paw” to the love of his life, his grandson, Tyler Mack Francis; a sister-in-law, Lil Francis; and many nieces and nephews.

The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 13, in Capron Cemetery. Pastor Ron Carr will be officiating.

The family will receive friends at Brian’s residence following the service, and suggests that memorial donations be made to any favorite charity.
