FRANKLIN

De-shaun Butts and Josh Johnson, both seniors at Franklin High School, have signed their letters of intent to wrestle at Ferrum College. The ceremony took place on Wednesday, which is also National Signing Day, in the school library with their respective families closely witnessing the commitment. Supt. Tamara Sterling, Principal Travis Felts Athletic Director Dave Lease and other faculty were also present to congratulate the young men. Coaches Daniel K. “Bull” Johnson and Demetrious Gray were present; Johnnie McKeller, an assistant coach, was unable to attend.

Butts and Johnson each said they picked Ferrum because they liked the campus and also that college had shown the most interest in them.
Felts said that Butts and Johnson had over 100 wins in their high school careers. Da-shaun finished third in the state in the 145 pound weight class division. Josh finished third in the state in the 182 weight class division. The team finished fifth in the state for Class 1. This is the highest team finish in school history.

Daniel Johnson, who is also Josh’s father, reiterated that all the Franklin High wrestling team had placed third in the region and fifth as a team in state competition. He’s already looking forward to a new season starting with a summer camp at the local YMCA.
