Customers of the recently sold Crawford’s Small Engine and Equipment Company in Ivor need not worry about where to get their lawnmowers serviced this summer. The business was reopened on March 1 by Larry Jr. and Suzanne Walker, offering repeat as well as new customers the same pleasant and friendly service they had before. The couple, by the way, is familiar with the area as they live in rural Zuni with their daughter, Katelyn, who is 10.

“We’re very happy to be here and ready and anxious to serve the community,” said Walker, with a smile. Speaking from the showroom of his company, now known as Walker’s Small Engine and Equipment Company, the young businessman admits that owning a business of this nature has been his dream for several years.

“I’ve had a couple part-time businesses,” he said, “but not one full-time before. So, when I heard that this place was for sale, my wife and I thought it was the right time to make a move.”

Walker revealed that he found Crawford’s was for sale on the internet.

“I was just scrolling through the ‘businesses for sale’ on the internet one night and there it was. I talked to my wife, then we talked to Fred, and here we are.”

It is the perfect venture for the couple, he thinks.

“I have 15 years experience in the mechanical industry, including small engine sales and repair, while Suzanne has worked in finance that long, as well.”

Suzanne, who is the bookkeeper, added, “So far, we’ll be doing the work ourselves, but as the business grows, we may need other help.”

The store offers the same kind of service and merchandise that Crawford did, she continued, noting that brand names include Husqvarna, Encore and Red Max.

“We carry and service residential and commercial mowers, chainsaws, tillers, blowers and trimmers.

“Then, we offer delivery and pickup options for units being serviced and delivery options on units purchased.”

She added that they also have a wide selection of parts and accessories for all kinds of outdoor power equipment.

Store hours are 8 a.m. ’til 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. ’til 2 p.m. on Saturday.
