Collect fees on ‘abandoned’ vehicles

Editor,

I’ve had this idea for sometime and never pursued it.

Take any road in the [Southampton] county and take time to view both sides. You will be surprised as you ride by. I can’t believe how many cars, trucks, boats, RV’s and trailers are parked around the properties — just parked there.

It looks like they have expired tags, no inspection whatsoever.

Do the owners pay any property tax connected to owning these “abandoned” vehicles? As a guess I would say no; the county may not know of them.

In addition to collecting fees for their “abandoned” vehicles, it would make the county more inviting by removing these “abandoned” vehicles if the fees were not paid.

I would like this investigated as to the possibility of this action taken by the county.

It would necessitate getting “someone” from the county to road around the county investigating.

A letter from the county would do little to correct this situation as they were probably notified before.

Just an idea.
