Rev. Dr. Haywood T. Gray

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Rev. Dr. Haywood T. Gray, 58, died on April 18, 2019.
He held the position of Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the General Baptist State Convention of North Carolina Inc. from January 2005 until his death. The convention represents more than one-half million African-American Baptists in more than 1,600 congregations across North Carolina.
Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Doris Freeman of Richmond, Virginia; sons, Randy Slade of High Point, North Carolina; the Rev. Kevin Bowe of Marion, Arkansas; Emmanuel Williams of Greenville, North Carolina; Allen E. Ingram of Durham, North Carolina; the Rev. Dr. LaMont Johnson of Durham; Alonzo Thomas of Greensboro, North Carolina; the Rev. Thomas Farrow Jr. of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Minister Yoshiko Fields of Houston, Texas; daughter, Vernita Bowe of Durham; 17 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; sister, Fulgencia Freeman of Richmond; and a host of other relatives, colleagues and friends.
The funeral will take place at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, in the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts, 2 E. South St., Raleigh. The Rev. Dr. J. Vincent Terry Sr. will officiate. The Rev. Dr. Dorwin L. Howard Sr., pastor of First Cosmopolitan Baptist Church, will be the eulogist. Entombment will be in Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh.
