FRANKLIN — Walter “Biscuit” Johnson of Washington Street transitioned from his earthly life to claim his eternal rest and peace on April 11, 2019, while a patient in Courtland Heathcare Center.

On Aug. 6, 1937, he was born to Jake and Rosa Costen Johnson in Southampton County, Virginia.

Walter completed his high school education and graduated from Hayden High School in 1959.

After high school, Walter continued his studies at DePaul Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, where he acquired his certification at the School of Radiologic Technology.

He also attended Norfolk State College.

Walter was formerly a member of First Baptist Church, and an original member of The Franklin Sportsman Association.

He had an extensive career in radiology. In 1960, he became a radiologic technologist at DePaul Hospital, and in 1968 he was employed at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital as a diagnostic radiologist. He remained in the Nuclear Medicine Department until his retirement in 1996.

He is survived by his former wife and caregiver, Rosa Lee Johnson; one son, Ronald “Wolfie” Johnson (Denise); five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one aunt; one niece; one nephew; and many other relatives.

The celebration of life will be at noon on Saturday, April 20, in First Baptist Church, 318 Hall St., Franklin, with the Rev. Anthony Woodley delivering the eulogy; the Rev. Marcus Jennings, pastor-elect, will be the host.

Walter’s body will be placed in the church by 10 a.m. for viewing. The committal and benediction will be in Southview Cemetery.

The service with dignity will be conducted by Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home Inc., 224 S. Main St.
