Annie Cooper Johnson of Gardner Street, Franklin, Virginia, passed away on March 28, 2019, while resting peacefully in her home.

She was born in Lumberton, North Carolina, on July 14, 1942, to the late Frederick Douglas and Jetha Lee Cooper.

She graduated from Upchurch High School, Raeford, North Carolina, in 1960, and continued her education at Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina. Ann earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education in 1964.

She was an educator in the Southampton County Public School System for 34 years and retired in 2002. She was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church where she served on the Greeter Ministry, chairman of the Usher Ministry, and chairman of XYZ. For 11 years, Ann was a valued staff member of Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home Inc.

Ann was a charter member of Lambda Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., member of Virginia Retired Teachers Association, Black Achievers and the Franklin-Southampton American Cancer Association.

She is survived by husband, Clyde Johnson; daughter, Tara C. Johnson-Williams (Germaine); son, Derrick T. Johnson and his wife, Melissa; four sisters, Allene Galbrath, JoAnn Graves, Cynthia Cooper and Shirley Cooper; four brothers, Willie J. Cooper (Edna), Charles Cooper (Bernell), Neal Cooper and Gregory Cooper (Vanzella); seven grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

The visitation will be held on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., in First Baptist Church, 318 Hall St., Franklin, where the Rev. Marcus Jennings serves as pastor-elect.

The celebration of life will be on Saturday, April 6, at 2 p.m., in Apostolic Faith Church of God, 608 Oak St., with the Rev. Dr. D.S. Riddick II delivering the eulogy; Overseer Ronnie Warren is the host pastor. Burial will be in Southampton Memorial Park.

The service with dignity will be conducted by Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, Inc., 224 S. Main St.
