Lady Raiders win over Lady Warriors, 9-0

COURTLAND

Covonna Bynum was brilliant on the rubber on Wednesday, as she threw a no-hitter to lead Southampton Academy Lady Raiders Varsity past Tidewater Academy 9-0.

The Lady Raiders opened up scoring in the second inning when Ashlynn Pearce’s sac fly scored two runs for her team. The team tallied four runs in the sixth inning. Big bats were led by Megan Purvis, Avery Pope, Katelyn Holland and Bynum, who all drove in runs.

Bynum earned the win for Southampton. She surrendered zero runs on zero hits over seven innings, striking out 12 and walking one.

Madison Vaughan took the loss for Tidewater Academy. She lasted six innings, allowing nine hits and nine runs while striking out three.

The Southampton Academy Lady Raiders saw the ball well, racking up nine hits in the game. Bynum, Holland and Pope managed multiple hits.

The team went to Lancaster High School for games on Friday and Saturday. On Monday, April 8, the girls will go against the Lady Chargers at Isle of Wight Academy. Game time is at 4:30 p.m.
