Theodore Matthews Sr.

FRANKLIN — Theodore Matthews Sr. of Virginia Street, peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home on March 21, 2019.
He was born on Sept. 13, 1939, in Isle of Wight County, Virginia, to the late Jerome and Eunice Goodman Matthews.
Theodore was a member of Mill Neck Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as deacon emeritus on the Deacon’s Ministry, a member of the Senior Choir, the Male Chorus and Community Choir.
He was a welder employed with Union Camp Corporation for 27 years, and had retired in 1998.
Theodore is survived by his loving wife, Irene Matthews; one daughter, Vanessa Matthews Hogue (Benjamin); his sons, Alonza Matthews Sr. (Carlene), Theodore Matthews Jr. and LaVar Matthews (Schekeyia); three sisters, Eunice Daniel, Elizabeth Holloway and Nellie Simmons; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nieces, nephews and cousins.
The celebration of life will be on Wednesday, March 27, at 1 p.m., in Mill Neck Missionary Baptist Church, 123 Mill Neck Road, Como, North Carolina, with Pastor Stanley Jones III, delivering the eulogy; Pastor Darrell Partlow is host pastor.
Mr. Matthew’s remains will be placed in the church for viewing by 11 a.m. The committal and benediction will be held in Southview Cemetery.
The service with dignity will be conducted by Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home Inc., 224 S. Main St.
