IVOR — Carolyn Wade Drewry, 79, died on March 20, 2019.

She was born on May 29, 1939, to Herman Wade and Lizzie Slade Wade, and was married on Feb. 15, 1958, to E. Oscar Drewry, all three of whom predeceased her.

Mrs. Drewry was a native and lifelong resident of Southampton County, where she resided in the Berlin farming community until declining health required her to move to The Village at Woods Edge, and then to East Pavilion.

She was a member of Millfield Baptist Church.

She spent most of her life as a homemaker, but for many years she was Berlin correspondent for The Tidewater News. She had the ability to describe mundane events so as to make them seem like glorious events.

She is survived by her daughter, Kay Drewry Cass and son-in-law, Mark, of Courtland; and numerous Cutright and Drewry cousins; and her neighbors, including Betsy W. Cutright, who is the widow of Amos Cutright and who was Carolyn’s next-door neighbor for many years.

The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, in Millfield Baptist Church Cemetery, 31389 Millfield Road, Wakefield, with Pastor Brooks Gale officiating.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
