CAPRON

Capron Elementary students were thrilled to be entertained by the Virginia Opera as they performed their enthusiastic rendition of Jack and the Beanstalk as part of Virginia Opera’s In-School Touring Program, which brings live opera to school-age kids.

They got to experience opera, hear a twist on a familiar tale and learn a few good lessons about the importance of not being a bully.

In this tale, the universal classic is told as never before, set to sections of six operettas by Gilbert and Sullivan. A perfect combination of a great story and music, this version ends with the giant realizing that he had been acting like a bully and admitting he “was never very good at being bad.” His apology is accepted, all is forgiven and humans, giants and farm animals all live happily after ever!

The cast, which consisted of three vocalists and one pianist, blended traditional, classical themes with more modern shots of humor. It was an engaging and interactive production that was lively and magically entertaining for the students.
