Troop 17 collects food for ministry

The Boy Scouts of Troop 17, sponsored by High Street United Methodist Church, collected “Food for Scouting” over the last few weeks. About bags of food have been delivered to the Franklin Cooperative Ministry.

Kim Blythe, the community event coordinator for the troop, said the project is something all BSA troops do each year in February and March.

In past years, she said, the troop — which has been in existence for over 100 years — would take large empty paper grocery bags from door to door in neighborhoods one week, and pick up full bags up the next week from those same neighbors. “The last few years we have been giving each Scout three bags to distribute to family and friends to help fill them,” said Blythe. “We chose Cooperative Ministry because we love to give back to the community and they are in our hometown.”
