Editor,
I am writing about my hospital stay Feb. 4 through 6 at Southampton Memorial Hospital. After completing the official survey I wanted to share my comments to let you know what wonderful care I received at the facility.
I have been a RN for 40 years, the last 20 of that as a nurse practitioner of anesthesia, or more
commonly known as a CRNA. That is in fact is how I came to be at the facility. Being a resident of
York County, Virginia, it was an hour and half drive to Southampton Memorial Hospital. A former coworker of mine, Mr. Paul Pellin, is a CRNA at your facility, and he let me know what wonderful surgical outcomes Dr. Manish Patel was having with the Jiffy Knee. I was dreading having a knee replacement but knew it was time.
From the time I checked in that morning until my discharge Wednesday noon I was treated with the
utmost respect and kindness by the staff. The Pre-op and OR staff were professional and efficient. My
care on the Med/Surg unit could not have gone better. My nurses, Melissa, Sam and Lindsay, were
compassionate, professional and caring. I never lacked for anything my entire hospitalization. There is
a special place in my heart for Andrew the physical therapist; he really had my complete confidence
and kept me going. And lastly, Miss Hope from Dietary was a ray of sunshine every time she entered
the room.
I have shared my experience with friends and colleagues telling them there are not enough superlatives
to describe my hospital stay. I felt all the staff was invested in the outcome of my surgery.
My heartfelt thanks to all the executive staff.
Best regards,
Patricia E. Parkerson, CRNA, BSN, MSNA
Seaford, Virginia
