Hope R. Jones

FRANKLIN — Hope Reams Jones, 97, of Franklin, passed away on March 6, 2019.

Mrs. Jones was born on Nov. 26, 1921, in Newport News and grew up in Richmond.

She was a daughter of the late Roy and Dora Cariker Reams, and was also predeceased by her brother, Roy Reams Jr.

Mrs. Jones graduated from Highland Springs High School in Richmond and also the Professional Business School of Richmond the following year. She then began working for C&P Telephone Company, where on her lunch break she met a handsome Army Air Corps pilot who became her husband four months later.

She was a member of High Street United Methodist Church and Southampton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, where she volunteered as a Pink Lady for many years.

She was a faithful supporter of the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life and also knitted blankets for many hospital newborns.

She loved her time spent going to aerobics at the YMCA and playing golf and bridge with her many friends. She also loved participating in The Little Theater productions.

Her greatest love besides her husband was her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She spent her last 12 years at The Village at Woods Edge. Her family would like to thank the staff at The Village for their wonderful care and kindness and to Angelia Reid and her staff of caregivers. They will always be remembered and appreciated.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 75 years, Berry Allen Jones Sr.; a son, Berry Allen Jones Jr. (Pat) of Staunton; a daughter, Judith Jones Allen (John) of Roswell, Georgia; four grandchildren, Carla Jones Stout (Tyler) of Charlotte, North Carolina; Kathryn Allen Crawford (Joseph Nesbitt Crawford III) of Marietta, Georgia; John Maxwell Allen of Atlanta, Georgia; and Courtney Reams Allen of Austin, Texas; seven great-grandchildren, Luke Allen Stout, Cameryn Mae Stout, Noelle Hope Stout, Emerson Michael Allen, Callaway Hope Allen, Joseph Nesbitt Crawford IV and Maxwell Jones Crawford; a sister, Jeanne Reams White of Richmond; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. ON Saturday, March 9, in Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Nathan Decker officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.

The reception will be in the main lobby of The Village at Woods Edge after the burial.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to High Street United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 218, Franklin, VA 23851.
