FRANKLIN — Mr. Russell “Rock” Gainey of South Street transitioned on Feb. 12, 2019.

He was born on Sept. 19, 1951, to the late John Henry Darden and Ruth Gainey Cunningham in Franklin.

“Rock” as he was affectionately known, was employed with Southampton Memorial Hospital and retired in 2014 after 22 years of service. In 1970, he graduated from Hayden High School.

The memory of “Rock” will live forever in the hearts of three sons, Dominque Gainey, Dupree Gainey, Sidney Gainey and his wife, Shawnda; two sisters, Sharon Gainey and Niecy Gainey; one brother, Harry Gainey; one grandchild, Savannah Gainey; aunts, Bernice Gainey, Wilhelmina Hickman, Mary Gainey; and many other relatives and friends.

The celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20, and as of Monday, has been moved to First Baptist Church, 318 Hall St., Franklin, with the Dr. Steven G. Blunt delivering the eulogy; the Rev. Dr. D. Shawrod Riddick II is the host pastor. The committal and benediction will be in Southview Cemetery.

The service with dignity will be conducted by Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home Inc., 224 S. Main St.
