FHS wrestling team advances to state tournament

FRANKLIN
The Franklin High School wrestling team placed third at the Region A/B Tournament last weekend at Mathews High School. The Broncos advanced 12 wrestlers to the VHSL State Tournament at the Salem Civic Center in Salem on Feb. 15-16.
Devin Deshields placed seventh in his weight class and will be an alternate for the state tournament. William Wellons placed sixth in his weight class. Kamari Murphy, Bishop Joyner, Thomas Maxwell, Kemond Rogers, Da’Von Curtis, and Jaheim Douglas placed fourth in their weight classes. Lee Curtis placed third in his weight class.
Regional runners-up were Joshua Johnson and Quadir Deshields. Da-Shaun Butts was regional champion and Region A Wrestler of the Year. All of these young men advanced to the state tournament.
