SEDLEY — Dorothy Powell “Dot” Allen, 83, passed away peacefully on Feb. 6, 2019, in her home.

Born in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and reared in Gaston, she was a daughter of the late Johnnie B. and Alma S. Powell, and was also predeceased by her sister, Betty Jean Timmons.

Dorothy was a 1953 graduate of Gaston High School.

She was a sales associate for Peebles Department Store for many years, and was a member of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church.

Dorothy was a very loving and giving person to her family and throughout the community.

She loved planting her flowers and watching them grow.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years Robert J. “Pete” Allen; a son Robert L. Allen; three daughters, Cathy A. Bradshaw (Mark,) Cheryl Williams (Steve) and Laurie Narducci; a sister, Christine Gordon; a brother, Louis “Bobby” Powell (Linda;) a special sister-in-law, Rose Phillips; five grandchildren, Ashley Gavin (Hudson,) Michelle Benson (Kevin,) Whitney Worrell (Charlie,) Shane Bradshaw and Travis Starke; nine great grandchildren; and a special friend whom she thought of as a daughter, Vanessa Vick.

The family would like to thank New Century Hospice and caregivers, special friends Larry and Adeline Tillett, Steve and Lynn Ivey, and the church family of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 10, in Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Curtis Faison and the Rev. Julian Mills, a cousin of Dorothy, officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Courtland.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday in the funeral home, and suggests that memorial donations be made to Sedley Fire Department or Tucker Swamp Baptist Church.
