COURTLAND

A Courtland man was arrested on a charge of aggravated malicious wounding, which allegedly took place on Jan. 30. This information comes from Lt. Camden Cobb, a spokesman for the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office.

David Cobb Simmons

Cobb informed The Tidewater News that Southampton County deputies responded to Southampton Memorial Hospital in reference to an assault that had occurred on River Road near Plank Road in the Courtland area.

They spoke with the victim of the assault, who alleged that the tip of his left index finger had been bitten off by the suspect, David Simmons, during an argument. Deputies saw an injury to the victim consistent with what was alleged to have happened.

The warrant was secured, and Simmons, 66, turned himself in to the sheriff’s office on Jan. 31 without incident. He was released on bond the same day, and his next court date is scheduled for Thursday, March 28, at 9:30 a.m., in the Southampton Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
