WINDSOR
There was never a dull moment when the Vanguard Championship Wrestling company came to Windsor High School on Jan. 6. This was for the first fundraiser to benefit the Windsor High School wrestling team.

Both the wrestlers and fans cheered on their favorites and heckled those they didn’t like.

Thanks to sponsorships that covered the cost of the visit, all the money raised from ticket sales and concessions went to the team.

Coach Sumner Bradshaw, who also teaches art at WHS, said, “We were able to raise over $3,500 for the wrestling team and will be using that money to purchase new warm-up gear. Any money leftover will go toward tournament fees and other expenses throughout the season.

“We were very pleased with the fundraiser and there is already a lot of buzz about when we will do it again. We are thinking about hosting it again next year if everything works out around the same weekend in January.”

He continued, “VCW was very easy to work with and very professional, I would highly recommend them to anyone else that may want to try something like it. The team has a few regular season dates left that include tri- and quad meets and two tournaments. We are continuing to improve and looking forward to the regional tournament in which students will have an opportunity to qualify for the state tournament in February.”

The company reported on its website the results of the evening matches, which included the main event at the end.

“‘The Vampire Warrior’ Gangrel is the new VCW Heavyweight Champion! He shocked everyone by defeating Brandon Scott for the championship, just over one month after Scott had regained the title from Billy Gunn at Wrestlecade. Gino was slated to challenge Brandon Scott for the gold on Feb. 2. What does the future hold for Gino? And have we seen the last of Brandon Scott? Stay tuned!”
