Franklin’s finest

A front-page report in today’s edition of The Tidewater News details the outstanding news that firearms-related offenses in Franklin declined significantly in 2018.
The 55 incidents reported last year represents a 27 percent reduction in similar activities compared to 2017. Drug-related offenses last year plummeted at an even greater rate, with only 32 in 2018 compared to 91 the prior year.
A number of factors have led to this reduction in crime, not the least of which is outside assistance and cooperation from other law enforcement agencies that have pitched in to help Franklin tackle the problem of gang activity in our city.
But the single greatest reason crime is on the decline here is because of the dedication and professionalism of the men and women who serve in the Franklin Police Department.
Law enforcement professionals are largely underpaid and underappreciated for the incredibly dangerous and noble work they do, and Franklin’s finest are certainly no exception.
It is because of their diligence and willingness to serve our community that ours is becoming one that is a safer place in which to live and work.
We commend and thank those who put their lives on the line each and every day in order to keep us safe. Count us among those who are grateful for what you do.
