Tigers outpace Dukes, 54-37

The Dukes at Windsor High began well enough in their game last Friday against the Tigers of Surry, getting the first three points close to 3 minutes in the first quarter. But the visiting opponents soon after not only caught up, but also passed their hosts, steadily increasing the lead. By the end of the first quarter, the Tigers were at 16-5.

Though the Dukes continued to lag in the second quarter, they gradually gained points throughout, and stood at 14 to the Tigers’ 26.

Refreshed from halftime, the hosts achieved several more baskets in the third to decrease the lead. With 2:40 left, the score stood at 37-30, Tigers’ favor. Surry quickly got two more, including one at the last second, putting the total at 39-30.

In the fourth, the Tigers picked up the pace and continued to again increase the lead. By 5:56, the board showed 46-32. Windsor achieved baskets at 7:11; 4:08 and finally at 1:10, but by the end it was 54-37.

The Dukes go to Brunswick High School today, Jan. 9, and play at 7:30 p.m., and then on to Surry High School this Friday, Jan. 11, and compete at 7 p.m.
