Home invasion suspect convicted

A Franklin man arrested on charges related to two armed home invasions last winter has been convicted.

Denard Raymon Williams, aka “Smooth,” was tried in Southampton Circuit Court on Dec. 18, according to Franklin Police spokesman Capt. Tim Whitt.

Williams, 20, pleaded guilty to credit card fraud, conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretense, and identity theft, all of which are reported to have occurred on Nov. 23, 2017; he was arrested on March 17, 2018.

But Williams pleaded not guilty to two counts of armed burglary, three counts of armed robbery, wearing a mask in public, abduction, one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony – first offense, and four counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony – second offense, all of which took place on Feb. 5, 2018. He was later arrested on March 1, and faced further charges on March 17 and May 30.

Williams was convicted on all counts, and his sentencing is scheduled for Tuesday, March 19.
