Police arrest suspect in theft of Christmas presents

FRANKLIN

A Franklin man sought on a charge of stealing Christmas packages this past November has been caught.

Bernard Lee Clements, 56, was arrested by Suffolk Police on Friday on warrants obtained by Franklin Police. This information comes from Capt. Tim Whitt, spokesman for the Franklin office. He said his understanding is that Suffolk officers arrested Clements on a traffic stop.

As previously reported, the suspect allegedly stole packages intended as gifts from the front porch of a residence located in the 500 block of Clay Street late afternoon on Nov. 27.

Clements was charged with petit larceny; two counts of grand larceny; and two counts of felony destruction of property.

He was remanded to Western Tidewater Regional Jail on a $2,500 secured bond.
