FRANKLIN — William John Mitchell, 75, passed away on Dec. 19, 2018, at Retreat Doctors Hospital in Richmond.

Mr. Mitchell was born in New York, and was a son of the late William and Mary Koch Mitchell.

He was a retired truck driver, and was a site attendant at the Flaggy Run and Joyner’s Bridge dump sites in Southampton County.

He leaves behind his wife of 34 years, Linda Davis Mitchell; children, Christopher Swarmer (Crystal,) William “Butch” Mitchell Jr. (Debra,) Lora Ann Mitchell, John Mitchell (Cheryl,) Shirley Austin (David) and Tonia Reed (Leonard;) siblings, Alvin Mitchell, George Mitchell (Samantha,) Robert Mitchell and Maryann Van Arsdale (George;) 15 grandkids; numerous nieces and nephews; good friends, Dennis Kriigel, Joe Blythe and William Faulk; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Wanda and Randy Johnson; and two beloved pets, Keeper and PeeWee.

The funeral with military honors will be at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27, in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milner’s Road, Suffolk.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Dec. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home.
