FRANKLIN — Edgar Franklin Parker, 81, passed away on Dec. 3, 2018.

Born in Suffolk and raised in Conway, North Carolina, Edgar attended Conway High School and Chowan College. He was a son of the late Roy Earl Parker and Winifred Davis Parker Vick.

He had retired as a manager of the Customer Technical Service team with Union Camp Corporation after 41 years of service.

He was a member of Franklin Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and former Sunday School superintendent.

Edgar was a former member of the Board of Directors of Chowan College and a former president of the Franklin Jaycees.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Shelby Jones Parker; one daughter, Susan P. Bergsagel (John) of Roswell, Georgia; one son, Larry E. Parker, and one brother, Roy Earl Parker Jr., both of Mechanicsville; and six grandchildren Maggie P. Brunner (Will,) Hannah Parker, Liza Parker, Parker Bergsagel, Davis Bergsagel and Caroline Bergsagel.

The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, in Franklin Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Charles Qualls and the Rev. Steve Gibson officiating. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the narthex of the church.
