DREWRYVILLE

An unnamed suspect led Southampton County Sheriff’s Office deputies on a brief chase this afternoon in Drewryville near the Sykes Trailer Park before being taken into custody.

According to Maj. Gene Drewery, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office, sometime between 2 and 2:30 p.m., a deputy attempted to pull over a speeding driver who was traveling at 105 mph in a car reportedly stolen from the city of Hampton. The suspect allegedly jumped out of the vehicle after stopping, and ran, at which time the deputy reportedly observed the suspect carrying a weapon.

The Sheriff’s Office tracked the suspect on foot using two different K-9 units, and took him into custody shortly before 3:40 p.m. Drewery confirmed that the suspect is male, but could provide no other information on the suspect’s description. As of shortly after 4 p.m., Drewery said the suspect had been identified as a juvenile, and as such, a name will not be released.
