RICHMOND
The Windsor Competition Cheerleaders opened up the VHSL State Championship at the VCU Siegel Center on Nov. 3. After they performed, it took over an hour before we received our score sheets. Once we received them we talked as a team about the changes we needed to make if we made it to the final round. Just making it to the State Championship was a dream in itself. There was tough competition and we didn’t get to see others in our division compete. We just knew if we made it to the finals we had to prepare quickly.

The top four out of eight advance to the final round. As we sat there waiting for all the scores to be announced we had no idea if we’d make it.

When they announced fifth place was Auburn with a score of 188.5 we jumped up with excitement. We knew our score was 190 and that we had made it to final round.

Windsor is a 1A school competing at the 2A level in competition cheer. Windsor is also the 1A state champions and fourth in the 2A class.

Going into final rounds we made a few adjustments. Our goal was to score 10 more points and have zero technical deductions. Watching the girls work together under so much pressure and continue to give it their all was an honor to witness.

Windsor’s Cheer Record:

Eastern Region 1A – First Place

Tidewater District – First Place

Duke Invitation – First Place
