Montese L. Phillips

FRANKLIN — Montese “Monty” Lockley Phillips, 88, peacefully left this world on Nov. 8, 2018, at her home in Alpharetta, Georgia.

This dearly loved mother, grandmother, friend and businesswoman was predeceased by her beloved husband, Andrew Phillips.

She is survived by two sons, Philip Phillips and wife, Patti; and Chris Phillips and wife, Karyn; and daughter, MaryAnna Phillips. Also left to cherish her memory are five grandchildren who affectionately called her “YiaYia:” Caroline, Andy, Kathleen, Calla and Sophia Phillips. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia Deaton.

Born in Pennsylvania and raised in North Carolina, Monty lived most of her life in Franklin, Virginia, where she and her husband, Andy, operated their first restaurant, The Southern Manor, on Highway 258 and later the Airway Restaurant. Andy taught Monty the restaurant business, and after his passing, Monty managed the Cypress Cove Country Club restaurant and later opened Phillips and Company Restaurant.

She loved spending time with family and friends and took great pride and pleasure in making sure her loved ones and customers were well fed and content. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother and a remarkable cook and host with a generous heart and love for the Lord.

Monty’s final wish was to return to Franklin to be buried with her husband. The Rev. Ben Duffey will officiate a memorial service in Wright Funeral Home on Monday, Nov. 19.

Visitation will begin at 1p.m. and the service at 2 p.m. The private graveside service will follow.
