Turkey brigade fulfilling mission

In Franklin, 350 families will be able to enjoy full-course Thanksgiving dinners on the holiday thanks to the continued work by the Turkey Basket Brigade of the Rose & Womble Foundation and the Hope Center in Franklin.

The holiday program has been going on “a ton of years,” according to Margaret Etheridge, Realtor for the R&W Realty Company in Franklin. More specifically, 25 years, according to www.roseandwomblefoundation.org.

Etheridge said that a $25 donation pays for the turkey, dressing, gravy and other fixings for a family, and locally, the foundation has received enough contributions to provide 200 of these dinners.

The meals will be available for pickup on Nov. 15-17 at the Hope Center on South College Drive, an outreach ministry from Kingdom Life on Delaware Road.

Butch Dundlow, a member of the Hope Center — of which Pastor Bob and Ginger Baum are directors — said the ministry will provide an additional 150 meals.

Both Etheridge and Dundlow confirmed that the meals are already spoken for, and the families will have to bring their tickets during that time. He added that the center is taking some names for a waiting list, so if some don’t show up with ticket, then those on the list would be contacted.

Collections of food and money will be accepted at the local Walmart and Food Lion this weekend. Customers can purchase items, such as canned vegetables, and contribute.
