A 23-year-old resident of the Southampton Meadows Mobile Home Park died as the result of a shooting that took place around 12:41 a.m. on Saturday. At the time of the reporting, Lt. Camden Cobb, spokesman for the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office, stated that the victim was then believed to be from New Jersey because of identification found at the scene. The name was withheld pending proper notification to the next of kin.

On Tuesday, though, fellow spokesman Maj. Gene Drewery announced that the office since learned that the victim, Richard Ferrell, was a resident of the mobile home park, which is in the 31000 block of Carter Street, Franklin.

The shooting was allegedly the result of an argument among multiple people, stated Cobb. He added that the office has not received any other reports of injuries related to this shooting.

Deputies and investigators are pursuing all leads in the case, and a person of interest has been identified.

Cobb said the office is asking anyone with information on this case to contact himself at 653-2100, or to provide information anonymously through Southampton/Franklin Crime Line by calling 653-2900.
