To the Editor:

There has been a lot of news and opinion lately about things such as civility, moderation, mob violence, hate crimes, sexual abuse and such, much of it since Judge Kavanaugh was nominated and the senate hearings were conducted. I was very impressed with Senator Susan Collins’ (R-Maine) speech to her colleagues about Judge Kavanaugh. She eloquently explained her very detailed, thoughtful and analytical reasoning regarding his past performance as a judge. She obviously did some serious research.

I also noticed that the following day both our Senators, Kaine and Warner, both Democrats, voted against Judge Kavanaugh’s appointment. As I listened to their “No” votes I could not help but wonder how much research and analysis of Judge Kavanaugh’s legal opinions they did. I suspect none. They most likely simply voted the party line, giving very little consideration to the appointee and his excellent judicial record. I suspect they also turn a blind eye to all the latest “Get in their faces” and “Kick them while they’re down” childish comments by some of their peers. They also do not seem to be very concerned about all the “hush money” we taxpayers have paid to settle abuse cases by their very own Congressional peers (who remain anonymous.)

I caution our citizens to consider the upcoming election. A vote for the likes of Senator Kaine and other liberals who might possibly result in the Democrats taking control of the House and/or Senate will give the country (sadly) the likes of Maxine Waters, Diane Feinstein, Dick Durbin, Elijah Cummings and others, as chairpersons of key Congressional committees.

It would also result in a likely disastrous return of Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House (third in line for the presidency) and Chuck Schumer as Senate Majority Leader.

In case you have forgotten, that’s the same infamous Nancy Pelosi of “We have to pass the Obamacare bill so we can find out what’s in it.” And the same Senator Schumer who opposed Judge Kavanaugh within hours after his nomination, long before any abuse allegations were made.

Also remember, when considering things like sexual abuse, that the Democrats who were in Congress as long ago as the mid-90s, voted against impeaching Bill Clinton who had and has a long history of sexual abuse with many women, including a young intern, and were highly critical of his accusers. I am convinced there is such a thing as a double standard, and we have seen the worst of it in recent weeks.

We can do better as a country. If you are as concerned as I am about what kind of nation we are leaving our grandchildren, I urge you to vote in three weeks and vote Republican or Independent.
