Southampton County public schools are dismissing early today, Oct. 11, due to predictions of unsafe weather conditions. This information comes from Dr. Gwendolyn Shannon, superintendent.

The middle and high school students will be dismissed at 1 p.m. The elementary school students will be released at 2 p.m.

“Please stay safe, everyone,” she wrote in her announcement.

Franklin and Isle of Wight public schools remain open, but all after-school activities have been cancelled. High schools in the latter district will not be sending students to the Governor’s School for the Arts today.

Also, the Isle of Wight School Board meeting has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 16, starting at 6 p.m. in the courthouse complex.
