Fallout from Hurricane Michael, which is projected to be downgraded to a post-tropical storm by the time it passes over the Western Tidewater area, is expected to bring between four to six inches of rainfall according to the National Hurricane Center.

The rain will likely begin on Thursday, but could begin as early as today, Oct. 10. The National Weather Service’s Wakefield station reports that the chance of precipitation on Thursday is 80 percent, while the chance of precipitation on Wednesday evening is only 40 percent. Thunderstorms are also possible for both days, and there is a 100 percent chance of rain on Thursday night.

As for wind speeds, the NHC is predicting a 60 to 70 percent chance of tropical storm force winds, defined as being greater or equal to 39 mph.

The most likely arrival time of tropical storm force winds is around 8 p.m. on Thursday.
