Richard S. Riddick

NORFOLK — Mr. Richard S. Riddick of Grandy Avenue transitioned to be with the Lord on Oct. 2, 2018, while a patient in DePaul Hospital. The Como, North Carolina, native was born on July 16, 1932.

Richard served in the United States Navy where he retired as a Chief Petty Officer after 22 years. Later, he became employed with Norfolk Naval Base where he retired in 1993.

Early in life, Richard confessed Christ as his personal savior and became a member of Diamond Grove Baptist Church. He became a member of the Trustee Ministry and the Male Chorus. Later in life, he joined Second Calvary Baptist Church in Norfolk and joined the Male Chorus.

He is survived by three sisters, Lizzie R. Scott, Frances Forte, Mazie Robinson (Paul); one brother, Johnie Riddick (Carolyn); two sisters-in-law, Ida Riddick and Shedricka Riddick; his godchild, Alicia Riddick; his special companion, Beatrice Bowen; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Viewing will be on Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home Inc., Franklin.

The visitation will be on Saturday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Second Calvary Baptist Church, 2940 Corprew Ave., Norfolk, where the Rev. Dr. Geoffrey V. Guns is the pastor.

The celebration of Richard’s life will be on Sunday, Oct. 14, at 3 p.m. in Diamond Grove Baptist Church, 30466 Riverdale Drive, Franklin, with the Rev. C.L. Myrick delivering the eulogy. The committal and benediction will be held in the church cemetery.

A traditional service with dignity will be conducted by Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home Inc., 224 S. Main St.
