FRANKLIN
A Franklin man charged with shooting a person in the head is now in custody at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond.

According to Capt. Tim Whitt, spokesman for the Franklin Police Department, last Sunday at 9:50 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment in the 300 block of South High Street. The officers located one person, a 38-year-old Franklin man, with a gunshot wound to his head inside the apartment. The victim was airlifted to an area trauma hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Asked about his condition on Monday, Whitt said he knew only that the victim was still in a hospital.

The investigation led officers to arrest 37-year-old Tremayne Cassell Pope, of 305 S. High St., Franklin. Pope is charged with unlawful wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, discharge of a firearm resulting in injury and discharging a firearm in an occupied building.
