FRANKLIN — Mr. LeRoy Newsome of Gardner Street transitioned to be with the Lord on Oct. 3, 2018, while a patient in Nansemond Pointe Convalescent Facility, Suffolk.

He was born on Jan. 1, 1946, in Southampton County, Virginia, to Jeff Newsome and Theresa Person Everette.

He was educated in the Southampton County Public School System.

LeRoy was employed with the city of Washington, D.C., as a bus driver for 22 years and he retired in 2001.

LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents and one son, LeRoy Newsome Jr.

His memory will forever live in the hearts of his wife, Evelyn B. Newsome; one daughter, Alicia Moses; one sister, Mary Newsome-Coleman (Carl;) two brothers, Jermaine Newsome and Edmond Newsome; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

On the day of the service, Mr. Newsome’s remains will rest in church for viewing by noon. The service celebrating his life will be on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 2 p.m. in Pleasant Shade Baptist Church, 24030 Delaware Road, with the pastor, the Rev. Willis Freeman, delivering the eulogy. The interment will be held in Southview Cemetery.

A traditional service with dignity will be conducted by Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home Inc., 224 S. Main St.
