Mildred C. Edwards

COURTLAND — Mildred “Millie” Chappell Edwards, 93, departed this life on Sept. 24, 2018, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Born on June 11, 1925, in Granville County, North Carolina, the only child of the late John Littleton Chappell and Katherine Thompson Chappell, Millie was predeceased by her husband, Warren W. Edwards, and a son, Stephen W. Edwards.

A resident of Courtland for over 30 years, she was a local business owner and a stalwart of the Courtland Baptist Church, where she led youth groups and taught Sunday School.

She and Warren moved to Virginia Beach where they operated an independent insurance agency and were active in neighborhood affairs.

A valued member of Kempsville Baptist Church, she continued as a church leader and Sunday School teacher for another 30 years. For the past six years, Millie lived in the Greenfield Senior Living Center in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, where she was active in the life of the center and, once again, taught a Sunday morning Bible Class.

Left to cherish her memory are one son, Warren C. Edwards (Diane) of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; two daughters, Catherine E. Sutton (Jack) of Oak Ridge, North Carolina; and Olivia E. Bullock of Wilson, North Carolina; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Greenfield of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, for the excellent care they provided for her.

The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28, in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland, with the Rev. Bill McCarron officiating.

There will be a reception following the service in the Courtland Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
