Father charged with killing son

mckinley myrickA Franklin man is in custody after having been charged with killing his son on Friday.

That day, according to Southampton County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Maj. Gene Drewery, the office received a call for service of a domestic disturbance where someone had been shot.

Deputies responded to the 28000 block of General Thomas Highway to a residence. The victim, Luciano M. Myrick, 49, also of Franklin, was treated by rescue and transported to Southampton Memorial Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries there.

The victim’s father, McKinley Myrick, 70, was taken into custody and charged with second degree murder, use of firearm in the commission of a felony and shooting in a occupied dwelling.

He is being held in the Southampton County Jail with no bond.

Myrick’s first court hearing will be on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 9 a.m. in Courtland.
