Virginia Hound Heritage, a 501(c)(3) non-profit group dedicated to preserving the history and heritage of all types of hound hunting in Virginia, as well as to raise money for local charitable efforts, will be making an important donation this fall.

In response to a need expressed by Hunters for the Hungry, VHH has purchased a walk-in, portable meat cooler that it will present to Hunters for the Hungry on Sunday, Oct. 7, which will be from 2 to 8 p.m, at VHH’s third annual Hoses and Hounds event at the Southampton County Fairgrounds. Originally scheduled for this coming Saturday, Sept. 15, the event has been moved to due to the expected inclement weather resulting from Hurricane Florence.

Once donated, the cooler will be used to collect deer meat to be distributed by Hunters for the Hungry to those in need. The group expressed its primary need was additional coolers, and VHH stepped up to help fill that void. During deer hunting season, the cooler will be rotated among several sites for meat collection around the region. A schedule of collection sites will be published prior to the commencement of deer hunting season.

Hoses and Hounds, a joint venture between VHH and the Boykins Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, began as a fundraising venture to raise money for both VHH and local first responders. In its first year, funds were raised to purchase bulletproof vests for K-9 units with both the Southampton and Sussex County Sheriff’s Departments.
