FORT MONROE
With evacuations underway for the Outer Banks of North Carolina and portions of coastal Virginia, State Police are advising residents and motorists to pack their patience and make traffic safety a priority. Motorists can expect increased volumes of traffic on Route 460 and Interstates 264, 664 and 64 throughout Tuesday and on into Wednesday. Increases in traffic indicate an increased need for all drivers to make smart, safe and sober decisions while behind the wheel.

Drivers are advised to plan their routes in advance, have adequate fuel for their destination, make certain vehicles are in good working condition, and to share the road responsibly.

All drivers and passengers are reminded to buckle up. Infants and young children must be safely secured in child safety seats, booster seats and/or seat belts. Please limit distractions, avoid texting while driving, and pull off at an exit if you’re too tired to drive.

For road conditions and updates now and throughout the storm, drivers can call 511 or go to www.511virginia.org or download the 511 Virginia app.
