Mary L. Green

FRANKLIN — Mary L. Green, 93, was called home to eternal rest at 12:45 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018, at East Pavilion Hospital in Franklin, Virginia.
She was born on Feb. 9, 1925, in Southampton County, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Everett and Virgie Blake. She married Arthur Green in 1945 in Franklin, and he preceded her on May 7, 1993.
Mary was a member of New Mount Zion Baptist Church. She was formerly employed by Planters Peanut Company, Southampton Memorial Hospital and a host of other businesses.
Mary loved spending time with her family, watching television game shows, and on occasion took classes at Paul D. Camp Community College.
She leaves to cherish her memory three sons: Albert Green of Franklin; Arthur Green of Manhattan, New York; and Larry Green of Hampton, Virginia; a godson, Wayne Miles of Washington, D.C.; six grandchildren, Cedric Green, Joseph Greene Jr., Nghai Green, Sherita Green, Pamela Haney and Gerik Lawrence; seven great-grandchildren: Amari, Dominic, Jacob, Jayla, Justin, Kamla and William; and many other extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sons: the Rev. Joseph Greene and Timothy Green; and brothers and sisters, Everett Blake, Preston Blake, Essie Eley, Cora Fiers, Delia Hunt, Ruby Parham and Clara Stith.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 10, in New Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 415 Stonewall St., Franklin. The graveside service will be in Southview Cemetery, Morton Street, Franklin.
Arrangements are under the care of William M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, 224 S. Main St., Franklin.
